Biotechnology giant Amyris continues building its portfolio of beauty brands with its first retail acquisition of Onda Beauty.
WHO: Opened in 2014, Onda Beauty was co-founded by Larissa Thompson, Sarah Bryden-Brown, and actress Naomi Watts. It has two stores in Tribeca and Sag Harbor. The retailer offers an assortment of brands that meet its criteria, including a no-list of ingredients 79 items long and guidelines for synthetic ingredients. The locations also have a service component offering facial treatments.
Amyris is a science and technology leader in the research, development, and production of sustainable ingredients for the Clean Health and Beauty and Flavors & Fragrances markets. Amyris uses an array of exclusive technologies, including state-of-the-art machine learning, robotics, and artificial intelligence. Their portfolio of consumer brands includes Biossance, Pipette, Rose Inc., JVN, Terasana, and Olika.
WHY: While no plans for the retailer were released, Amyris said the purchase "aligns with Amyris' strategy to deepen its relationships with consumers."
